Elonex announces £99 laptop

Elonex has unvelied their Elonex ONE at the Education Show in Birmingham, UK. The laptop is a subnotebook and comes in various colors.

Specifications:

  • 22 x 15 x 3 cm (W x L x H)
  • 0.95 kg weight
  • Interchangeable Outer Rubberised Skin (Optional)
  • LNX Code 8 Mobile 300MHz Processor
  • 128Mb DDR-II SDRAM Memory (256Mb upgrade available)
  • On-board 1Gb Flash Memory (2Gb upgrade available)
  • Removable 1Gb, 2Gb, 4Gb, 8Gb, 16Gb wrist-band USB drive (sold separately)
  • Wi-Fi 802.11b/g
  • 10/100Mbps Ethernet
  • Bluetooth (available in an upgraded model)
  • 2x USB 2.0 ports
  • Stereo speakers
  • 3.5mm audio-in/microphone
  • 3.5mm headphone
  • Splash-proof, removable QWERTY keyboard
  • Integrated 3 cell battery (about 4 hours usage)

  • Linux - Linos 2.6.21 operating system, with pre-installed software bundle

Like the OLPC, the software is Linux based, low power and low cost. Unlike the OLPC, the Elonex ONE is a commercial product, comes with a 1 year warranty and can be reserved on the Elonex ONE website. They are taking £10 reservations and plan to ship in June 2008.
